An SIT has been formed by the Kerala High Court to investigate the weight loss of gold plating on the idols at the Sabarimala Temple. The gold-plated copper plates were sent for electroplating to a company in Chennai in 2019. When the plates were returned, their weight was less than before, which led to the suspicion of irregularities. The High Court decided to conduct a more detailed inquiry with the formation of an SIT after an initial investigation by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) vigilance team. The investigation aims to ascertain the reasons for the weight reduction. Businessman Unnikrishnan Potty funded the investigation.
