An unforeseen explosion at South Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (SECL) Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh has led to injuries for three workers, two of them women. The incident took place on Monday afternoon as a team was engaged in setting explosives for a planned blasting operation. The blast occurred prematurely, causing rock debris to fly and strike the workers. The injured were swiftly moved to the SECL hospital in Kurasia, Chirmiri, and are reportedly stable and recovering. Investigations are currently underway to pinpoint the exact cause of the accidental detonation, with initial suspicions focusing on a technical fault. The company has secured the site and is conducting a comprehensive review of safety procedures to prevent recurrence.
