An explosion at an open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district has led to injuries for three workers, two of them women. The blast happened at the SECL-operated Chirmiri mine on Monday afternoon while a crew was setting up explosives for a planned detonation. The explosion occurred unexpectedly, causing rock and debris to fly, striking workers and nearby equipment. The injured were swiftly taken to the SECL regional hospital at Kurasia, where their conditions are stable and they are receiving care. Officials are investigating the cause, with initial theories pointing towards a technical fault that may have triggered the detonation prematurely. The company has initiated an internal probe to examine all potential factors, including equipment integrity and procedural adherence. Safety measures are being re-evaluated following the incident.
