Passengers aboard an IndiGo flight from Tuticorin to Chennai experienced an unexpected mid-air event on Monday when the flight deck crew identified a crack on the aircraft’s windshield. The ATR 72 aircraft, en route to Chennai with 75 individuals on board, subsequently made a secure landing at Chennai Airport. Following standard operating procedures, the pilots immediately informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) of the developing issue. Chennai ATC responded by establishing a local standby as a safety precaution, ensuring a seamless landing. The aircraft touched down without any difficulties, and all passengers were confirmed to be safe. IndiGo stated that the aircraft would undergo necessary maintenance and checks, underscoring their commitment to safety. This incident mirrors a similar event that occurred just days earlier on a Madurai-Chennai IndiGo flight, leading the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to initiate a comprehensive review of both occurrences and IndiGo’s ATR fleet.
