A viral video shows Afghan soldiers proudly displaying captured trousers and uniforms of Pakistani troops, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between the two nations. This incident follows Pakistani airstrikes conducted on Afghan soil, allegedly aimed at eliminating Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operatives. The strikes reportedly caused civilian deaths.
Afghan forces retaliated aggressively, targeting several Pakistani military installations along the Durand Line. Reports suggest that more than 50 Pakistani soldiers were neutralized in the counter-offensive. In addition to inflicting casualties, Afghan troops also secured tanks, weapons, and the abandoned uniforms, including trousers, of the Pakistani soldiers. The video circulating online prominently features these seized items.
Following these border confrontations and substantial losses, Pakistan has declared a 48-hour ceasefire. The Pakistani Foreign Office has stated its intent to pursue constructive dialogue for a peaceful resolution. However, the Taliban government in Afghanistan has indicated that the ceasefire was initiated at Pakistan’s request. Afghanistan’s leadership has previously expressed a desire for peace but has also warned Pakistan about pursuing alternative measures if diplomatic solutions are not embraced. Afghanistan continues to deny any involvement in cross-border terrorism targeting Pakistan.
