A Sunday morning disruption in drinking water supply to parts of Mango has ignited public frustration during a festive season. Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Rai promptly intervened, visiting the Mango drinking water project’s intake well and a key water storage tank. His assessment pointed to the negligence of both project officials and the contractor as the primary cause of the supply failure. Rai has vowed to take formal action, intending to file a charge sheet against the Executive Engineer of the drinking water department after the holiday period and press for accountability. He will also recommend that the contractor be placed on a blacklist. The MLA discovered that the intake well was heavily silted, indicating a lack of proper upkeep. Following his directive to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Nagar Nigam, cleaning operations were initiated, restoring normal water flow. Staff at the Prithvi Park water tank reported that water was being delivered by the contractor on an irregular schedule, typically only two to three days per week. Rai also noted that employees at the water treatment plant were showing favoritism in water distribution, prioritizing certain areas over others, leaving places like Mango with insufficient supply during crucial festival times. When questioned, the contractor cited ‘orders from above,’ while the Executive Engineer denied any official directive for such disparities.
