The Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 has finalized its crucial knockout venues following South Africa’s victory against Pakistan in Colombo. This result officially eliminates Pakistan from the semifinal race, marking them as the only team to not secure a win throughout the tournament after six outings.
The match, held at the R Premadasa Stadium, was significantly impacted by rain, reducing the total overs. South Africa batted first and posted an imposing 312/9 in 40 overs. Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus, and Marizanne Kapp all contributed vital half-centuries, while Nadine de Klerk provided a late surge with a blistering 41 from just 16 balls.
Despite further rain interruptions in the second innings, South Africa managed to bowl the requisite overs to make the match official. Their dominant performance, secured by 150 runs using the DLS method, confirmed their progression and Pakistan’s elimination. Pakistan’s only points came from two abandoned matches.
As a result of these confirmed outcomes, the first semifinal of the Women’s World Cup 2025 will be hosted at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The championship decider, the final, is scheduled to be played at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The second semifinal had already been allocated to Navi Mumbai.
An interesting pre-confirmation note was that Colombo would have served as the venue for both semifinals and the final had Pakistan managed to qualify. This was due to an established neutrality agreement for matches involving India and Pakistan in international competitions, continuing from the Champions Trophy 2025 arrangements.
