Vice President JD Vance has voiced a personal hope that his wife, Usha Vance, will eventually embrace Christianity. Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, shared his perspective at a recent event, acknowledging his wife’s Hindu upbringing. “Do I hope, eventually, that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved by in church? Yeah, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way,” he stated. Vance was clear that this is a personal wish and not a demand, emphasizing that his wife has the ultimate freedom to choose her faith. He highlighted the strong foundation of mutual respect and understanding in their marriage, noting that differences in religious beliefs are not a source of conflict. “But if she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, and so that doesn’t cause a problem for me,” Vance elaborated. He described how they manage their interfaith home, including their decision to raise their three children in the Christian faith. Their children attend Christian educational institutions, and the couple actively discusses these matters. Usha Vance, who is the first Indian American Second Lady, has indicated in past interviews that she respects her husband’s faith but does not plan to convert herself. The couple’s approach prioritizes respect for individual choices and a shared commitment to their family’s spiritual journey.
