A significant road incident occurred in Khunti on Sunday, along the Torpa Main Road, fortunately without any injuries. The mishap involved a trailer truck that started rolling backward while parked near Mahadev Fruit shop, where the driver had stopped to buy fruits. The unattended vehicle gained momentum and traveled approximately 200 meters before striking a tempo parked on the roadside. The collision was devastating for the tempo, which was completely destroyed. The accident also impacted a nearby electricity transformer, causing damage. This could have easily escalated into a major disaster with potential fatalities, but luck was on everyone’s side. Community members quickly arrived to secure the area and inform the relevant authorities, including the electricity board. The police conducted an on-site investigation and have since seized the trailer. Observers noted that the road was busy during the incident, highlighting how caution and quick reactions averted a larger tragedy. The trailer is now in the possession of the Torpa police.
