An extensive online fraud network was busted in Giridih with the arrest of five alleged cybercriminals. The operation, announced by SP Dr. Vimal Kumar, focused on individuals suspected of conducting phone-based scams in the Gandey police station’s jurisdiction, specifically near the Baghra railway overbridge in Balidih. Intelligence from the Pratibimb portal prompted the formation of a dedicated cyber police team, led by Sub-Inspector Rameshwar Bhagat. The team’s prompt action resulted in the capture of the five perpetrators, including alleged mastermind Aftab Ansari from Jamtara. The suspects disclosed their fraudulent tactics during police questioning, admitting to using fake web links and apps to trick individuals and impersonating bank officials to siphon funds from bank accounts. The arrested individuals, identified as Aftab Ansari, Parvej Ansari, Tafazul Ansari, Tabrez Ansari, and Niyaz Ansari, have ties to Jamtara and Deoghar. The police recovered 12 mobile phones, three of which were iPhones, and 15 SIM cards. Evidence suggests this gang is part of a larger cybercriminal ecosystem in Jamtara and Deoghar. Money obtained through the scams was routed through fake accounts before being converted into cash and distributed. Dr. Vimal Kumar assured the public that Giridih police are actively monitoring and addressing cyber threats with stringent enforcement measures.
