Bengaluru is poised to become the epicenter of world tennis as the World Tennis League (WTL) announces its much-anticipated India debut. From December 17th to 20th, the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium will host this premier team event, bringing world-class tennis action to India after its successful stint in the UAE.

The WTL India will feature an electrifying lineup of international tennis icons. Fans are gearing up to witness the prowess of players like Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, the formidable Elena Rybakina, and the talented Paula Badosa. Joining them will be celebrated players such as Rohan Bopanna, Gael Monfils, and promising talents like Arthur Fils and Sumit Nagal. The inclusion of India’s own tennis stars, including Yuki Bhambri and Ankita Raina, adds significant local excitement to the global competition.

Elena Rybakina, currently ranked fifth in the world, shared her thrill about making her WTL debut in India, noting her anticipation for the country’s passionate tennis atmosphere. The WTL employs a unique team-based format, where four squads compete in a round-robin phase. Each match-up will consist of men’s and women’s singles, followed by two doubles contests. The top two teams will then advance to compete for the championship title.

According to Mahesh Bhupathi, co-founder of the WTL, the league’s expansion into India signifies a commitment to fostering the sport’s growth and connection within the nation. He emphasized that the WTL’s fast-paced, engaging format is designed to captivate audiences and showcase the thrilling side of tennis. Bhupathi also expressed his vision for the event to inspire the next generation of Indian tennis champions by providing them with exposure to elite international competition.
