A strong accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand state government by opposition leader Babulal Marandi, who claims the administration is fabricating new criminal incidents to hide existing problems and corruption. Marandi asserted that the government and its systems have adopted a strategy of inventing new offenses to divert attention. Recent actions by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against the powerful coal mafia in Dhanbad have uncovered disturbing details. More critically, reports indicate that some senior police officials, allegedly benefiting financially from the illegal coal trade, have given ‘targets’ to eliminate key operatives of the coal mafia permanently. The motive, according to the opposition, is to silence those who might reveal incriminating information to the ED, thereby thwarting any investigation and keeping the truth concealed. Marandi alluded to past instances where ‘evidence was encountered’ instead of actual criminals being apprehended, citing the controversial tenure of a former DGP accused of orchestrating paid encounters and becoming the most corrupt police chief in Jharkhand’s history, with even ruling party members reportedly voicing these concerns. He advised the ED to be highly vigilant, stating that in Jharkhand, those who conceal facts often hold sway over those who seek to expose them. When the pillars of power, the official system, and criminal elements become interconnected, the subversion of justice becomes alarmingly commonplace.
