State BJP President Babulal Marandi has accused the Jharkhand government of manufacturing new criminal incidents to cover up existing illegalities. According to Marandi, this practice has become routine for the administration and its supporting systems. The recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions within the Dhanbad coal syndicate have reportedly uncovered alarming evidence. A particularly grave concern is the alleged directive from influential police officers, who are reportedly profiting from the coal black market, to ‘eliminate’ their lower-level associates to ensure the suppression of vital information. Reports suggest that individuals under ED scrutiny are now the subject of assassination plots designed to prevent the truth from coming out. Marandi referenced a history in the state of staged ‘evidence encounters’ conducted in the name of crime control. He recalled a former Director General of Police facing serious allegations of contract killings and unprecedented corruption, with criticism even coming from within the ruling party. The ED has been advised to proceed with extreme caution, as the state reportedly rewards those who conceal facts rather than those who reveal them. When power structures, the legal system, and criminal enterprises become intertwined, the subversion of justice is easily achieved.
