A stark accusation has emerged from Jharkhand’s opposition camp, with BJP State President and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi alleging that the state government is actively fabricating new criminal incidents to hide ongoing illicit activities. Marandi described this as a deliberate strategy employed by the government and the system. The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent enforcement actions within Dhanbad’s coal sector have supposedly exposed significant wrongdoing. More disturbingly, intelligence suggests that certain senior police officials, allegedly enriched by illegal coal proceeds, have issued ‘termination orders’ for their own operatives to ensure the complete suppression of information. Reports indicate that individuals currently cooperating with the ED’s investigation are facing assassination threats, a clear attempt to prevent the truth from coming to light. Marandi alluded to a history within the state where staged ‘encounters’ were allegedly used to destroy evidence rather than capture perpetrators. He specifically mentioned a previous state Director General of Police who was accused of orchestrating killings for hire and of amassing wealth through corrupt means, with even ruling party figures acknowledging his record-breaking corruption. Marandi strongly advised the ED to proceed with extreme prudence, highlighting that in Jharkhand, truth-tellers are often silenced while those who conceal facts wield power. He warned that the alignment of political authority, systemic institutions, and organized crime inevitably leads to the perversion of justice.
