Multiple regions across India are facing extreme weather conditions as per the latest advisories from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been sounded for Punjab, forecasting the likelihood of cold wave conditions in specific areas, signaling a significant drop in temperatures.
Concurrently, southern and island territories are warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to experience intense downpours. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are also alerted to possible thundersqualls and strong winds, posing a threat of severe weather events.
Coastal areas are under scrutiny with predictions of squally weather. This includes the south Kerala coast, the Lakshadweep region, the Comorin area, and the southern Bay of Bengal. The IMD’s warnings also cover the coastal belt of Tamil Nadu and the Andaman Sea, advising caution for coastal populations.
In terms of maritime conditions, squally winds are anticipated in the Gulf of Mannar, off the coast of Sri Lanka, and throughout the southern and northern parts of the Andaman Sea. The most severe wind conditions are projected for the south Andaman Sea and adjacent regions of the southeast Bay of Bengal, heightening maritime risks.
Delhi is currently experiencing winter-like temperatures. The capital city’s forecast points to clear skies interspersed with morning fog. The maximum temperature is projected to be around 25°C, but the minimum temperature is expected to be a cold 8°C to 10°C, following Wednesday’s plunge to 8°C which marked a strong onset of the cold season.
