Indian skies are experiencing significant flight disruptions as a major technical defect within the Airbus A320 family fleet is addressed. The core of the problem lies in the potential for intense sun glare to interfere with vital flight control data processed by the Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC). This safety concern has been validated by European aviation regulators, prompting Airbus to issue a global directive. This recall, the largest in the company’s history, impacts thousands of aircraft, with India’s fleet of A320-series planes seeing an estimated 200 to 250 aircraft requiring immediate attention. Major Indian carriers, including IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express, are working to implement the mandated software or hardware fixes. This necessitates grounding planes, inevitably leading to flight delays and cancellations. Passengers are urged to remain patient and check for updates directly from their respective airlines as the industry navigates these safety-driven operational changes.
