Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has entered into marriage with his partner, Jodie Haydon, in a private ceremony held in Canberra on Saturday, November 29. This occasion is a historic first, as Albanese is now the first sitting Australian Prime Minister to marry while in office. The intimate wedding was attended by around 60 guests, comprising close family, friends, and prominent figures including actor Russell Crowe and several government ministers. A civil celebrant officiated the ceremony at The Lodge. “We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” the Prime Minister stated following the nuptials. This marriage follows Albanese’s proposal to Haydon on Valentine’s Day 2024, making him the first Australian PM to get engaged while serving. Jodie Haydon is a notable advocate for women and a professional in the financial services sector. Her career, spanning two decades in superannuation and finance, has seen her in significant leadership roles. She was born in 1979 on the NSW Central Coast and currently leads strategic partnerships at Teachers Mutual Bank. Albanese and Haydon met in 2020 during a business dinner in Melbourne when Albanese was the opposition leader. The Prime Minister, 62, and Haydon, 46, had previously considered a larger wedding but decided on a more private event, taking into account the economic climate and political considerations around the election period.
