Parliament’s Winter Session 2025 begins today, December 1, marking the start of a crucial three-week legislative calendar concluding on December 19. With 15 sittings planned, the session is poised for significant bill introductions and potentially heated debates on various national issues. The Business Advisory Committee has outlined the schedule, allocating substantial time for key legislation. The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and Central Excise Bills are slated for three hours of discussion each. The Supplementary Demand for Grants will also be debated for three hours. A proposal for a 10-hour debate on the ‘Vande Mataram’ issue is on the table, pending the Speaker’s decision. The government is set to introduce a number of bills, with some proceeding without full Standing Committee examination. The Health Security and National Security Cess Bill’s introduction has been constitutionally sanctioned. Meanwhile, the opposition is gearing up to raise urgent matters such as electoral roll revisions, national security threats, air quality crises, the impact of new labor codes, and farmers’ welfare. Opposition party leaders are planning a strategy session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the media at 10 AM this morning at Parliament House, offering insights into the government’s priorities for the session.
