Rajya Sabha’s Leader of Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, conveyed his sadness at the lack of a formal send-off for former Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose exit he described as sudden and unexpected. While welcoming the new Chairman, CP Radhakrishnan, Kharge extended good wishes to his predecessor on behalf of the entire opposition. He reiterated his commitment to cooperate with the new Chairman for the efficient conduct of House business, while also urging him to ensure impartiality between the opposition and the ruling benches. Kharge emphasized the importance of treating all members fairly to uphold the dignity of the Chairman’s office and pledged support for constitutional values. Countering Kharge’s remarks, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the mention of Dhankhar, reminding the opposition of their previous criticisms and the filing of a motion for his removal, calling for restraint on such occasions.
