The Union Home Ministry has appointed experienced senior advocate Madhav Khurana as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to handle the complex legal aspects of the Red Fort car blast case. Khurana’s mandate extends for three years, during which he will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in trials and other legal proceedings before the designated NIA special court and the Delhi High Court. This appointment comes after the horrific explosion on November 10 that tore through a vehicle near the Red Fort, causing 15 deaths and significant injuries. The incident has been officially categorized as a terrorist act. The NIA has made substantial progress in its investigation, arresting seven individuals believed to be involved, including the alleged suicide bomber. Further evidence is being collected, including the examination of an additional vehicle connected to the case, and numerous witnesses have been questioned to piece together the events.
