Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) is bringing its cutting-edge ARBEL system, a revolutionary computer-assisted firearm enhancement, to India. This advanced technology is designed to elevate infantry capabilities by improving accuracy and reducing human error on the battlefield. The ARBEL system is hailed as the world’s inaugural fully computerized small arms solution. Once installed on rifles or machine guns, it allows for automatic, precisely timed follow-up shots, guided by the operator’s movements and trigger input. The development of ARBEL spanned nine years, resulting in a system that integrates seamlessly with AR-15 style rifles and light machine guns. It utilizes a sophisticated algorithm to analyze trigger behavior, confirming target acquisition and then firing subsequent rounds with exceptional speed and precision. The system’s compact and modular design includes essential components like a microprocessor, motion sensors, trigger sensor, control unit, and a field-replaceable battery. A significant advantage is its ability to upgrade existing firearms, offering a cost-effective enhancement. IWI emphasizes ARBEL’s reliance on the operator’s sight for target selection, a critical design choice that avoids dependence on optical sensors vulnerable to poor visibility. This ensures the weapon retains its full operational flexibility, crucial for dynamic engagement scenarios. Furthermore, ARBEL is being showcased as a potent anti-drone weapon. Its advanced sensors and optimized firing control enable swift tracking and neutralization of small drones. Weighing approximately 400 grams, it presents a lightweight and portable solution for soldiers facing drone threats, obviating the need for cumbersome dedicated counter-drone systems. IWI has indicated active discussions with Indian defense sector partners, expressing optimism for future collaboration. Should a deal materialize, ARBEL is expected to be produced locally under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This technology could significantly bolster India’s defense capabilities, especially in confronting aerial incursions along its borders, enhancing frontline readiness.
