The operational stability of IndiGo, India’s dominant airline, is in question following the cancellation of over 1,000 flights in a mere three days. This widespread disruption has left a significant number of passengers stranded, facing lengthy delays and uncertain travel plans. Airports nationwide, from Delhi and Mumbai to Pune and Ahmedabad, are witnessing the cascading effects of these cancellations. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, for instance, saw four IndiGo flights canceled and multiple delays. The crisis has pushed many passengers into a desperate search for alternative travel, often at exorbitant costs, with some fares doubling. Passengers have reported extended waits, lack of essential services, and immense frustration. IndiGo has cited crew shortages and technical problems as the primary reasons for the disruptions. In an effort to mitigate the ongoing impact, the airline has formally approached the DGCA seeking exemptions from certain FDTL regulations until February 10, 2026, while assuring that recovery measures are in place. The DGCA is actively monitoring the situation, has mandated further flight reductions to manage the immediate fallout, and has cautioned IndiGo against opportunistic fare increases. The Civil Aviation Minister has directed airport operators to provide all necessary support to stranded travelers.
