On behalf of the families from the tea garden region, a delegation reached Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Today, the Chief Minister met a delegation of the Tribal Coordination Committee India (Assam) in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. On this occasion, members of the delegation informed the CM about various problems and current situation of the tribal community living in Assam. They stated that indifference of the Assam government towards tribal communities has caused society’s misery. The tribal community residing in Assam is continuously lagging behind in every field. Chief Minister Hemant Soren listened to the delegation’s issues seriously and assured them that the Jharkhand government will take positive steps to protect their rights, dignity, and identity. The CM said that the government is fully committed to protecting the culture, traditions, and rights of the tribal society. He added that the government is ready and committed to walk hand in hand with the tribal community in Assam for their social, economic and educational development. He told the delegation that soon a delegation of the Jharkhand government will travel to Assam to familiarize itself with the current situation of the tribal people there. CM Hemant Soren reiterated that he would ensure ST status for the tribal workers in Assam’s tea gardens. He said that our government will take positive measures so that the daily wages of tribal people working in tea gardens increase, and will also take steps to solve land-related problems of those living there. It is known that during British rule, families of the tribal society were taken from Jharkhand and settled in Assam, and presently they are being treated as second class. The delegation asked Chief Minister Hemant Soren to lead them so that their voice reaches the center and state government. On the spot, the Minister of Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste and Backward Class Welfare Mr. Chamra Linda, Mr. Jiten Kerketta, Mr. Birsa Munda, Mr. Tarun Munda, Mr. Ganesh, Mr. Ajit Puri, Mr. Rajesh Bhuri, Mr. Babulaal Munda, Mr. Mangal Hembram and others were present.
