An explosion involving a steam boiler at Grizzly Vidyalaya in Koderma, within the Tilaiya Dam OP jurisdiction, has left five school employees injured. They are currently receiving medical care at Care Hospital in Jhumritelaiya, with two cases deemed critical. Guddu Kumar Rajak, one of the injured staff, recounted that the incident occurred in the school’s laundry section, responsible for washing and ironing uniforms for the residential students and teachers. On Wednesday, during their regular work, the steam boiler used for pressing clothes catastrophically failed.
The resulting blast showered the area with hot water, injuring those nearby. The force of the explosion caused some workers to be flung across the room, leading to severe injuries. The laundry facility suffered extensive damage. Other staff members quickly responded to the loud bang and provided immediate assistance, transporting the injured to the hospital. The health status of two individuals remains serious.
Questions have been raised about the school management’s diligence. Guddu Rajak indicated that the boiler had been problematic for an extended period, and the management was made aware of the issue multiple times. He suggested that instead of procuring a new machine, they continued to repair and operate the old one, which he believes directly led to the accident. Avinash Seth, a spokesperson for the school, acknowledged the unfortunate incident and confirmed that five individuals sustained injuries, two of whom are in critical condition. The remaining injured are stable and undergoing treatment. The injured have been identified as Guddu Rajak, Laundry In-charge Rajesh Singh, Pramod Rajak, Gautam Rajak, and Rajesh Prasad, all reportedly from Gaya, Bihar. News of the incident has caused apprehension among parents, who are reaching out to the school for updates on their children’s safety.
