A temporary ceasefire has been secured between Thailand and Cambodia, with former President Donald Trump claiming credit for facilitating the peace. Trump announced on Sunday that fighting would halt momentarily as both nations return to the terms of a prior treaty. He praised the leaders for their ‘brilliance’ in reaching a ‘FAST & DECISIVE’ conclusion, adding, ‘The United States of America, as always, was proud to help.’ Trump further bolstered his claims by stating he has settled eight conflicts in the past eleven months, declaring the United States the ‘real United Nations.’ He criticized the UN for its lack of effectiveness in various global conflicts, including the ongoing situation between Russia and Ukraine, urging for greater UN involvement in promoting world peace. The ceasefire agreement, finalized Saturday, aims to de-escalate weeks of intense border clashes. It includes mandates for halting military actions, freezing troop movements, and enabling displaced civilians to return home. The recent violence, which reignited earlier this month after a prior July ceasefire failed, has been devastating, with estimates of over 40 dead and close to one million people displaced from their homes. Accusations of initiating violence and harming civilians have been exchanged between the two neighboring countries.
