Amid a surge in violent crimes, Delhi Assembly’s opposition chief Atishi has appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah for a dialogue on the capital’s failing security apparatus. Repeated killings, lootings, gang rivalries, and gunfire have created an atmosphere of dread, with Atishi asserting, ‘Delhi is entitled to protection, not hushed indifference.’

Her letter chronicles a disturbing timeline: the brazen execution of Rachna Yadav, an AAP member and local leader, near the Chief Minister’s house. Identified and shot at point-blank, this was no random act but a silenced witness ahead of a key trial.

The NIA-investigated terror bombing near Red Fort in November 2025 that killed 13 exposed vulnerabilities at iconic spots. A cop’s earring-snatching attempt in December highlighted disciplinary breakdowns within ranks.

Elite Greater Kailash saw a gym-side gang hit in September 2025, confessed by Bishnoi-Godara outfits, signaling organized crime’s reach. Fresh shootouts in West Vihar, Green Park, and East Delhi over January 13-14, 2026, intensified fears.

Criticizing sluggish probes and zero accountability under Home Ministry control, Atishi emphasized Delhi’s role as India’s face. ‘When the heart of the nation falters, democracy itself is at risk,’ she warned, pressing for action to safeguard lives and prestige.
