In a dazzling display of innovation, China achieved staggering IP milestones throughout 2025. Rui Wanpiao, from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, shared these insights at a State Council press event on January 23.
High-value invention patents totaled 2.292 million, propelled by explosive growth in information tech, computers, and medical advancements. China’s perch atop global AI patents highlights its forward momentum.
The year saw 972,000 invention patents authorized, alongside 1.461 million utility model patents. Authorities closed 96,000 patent review and invalidation cases, fortifying the system.
Patent licensing and transfer filings surged to 697,000, a 13.7% rise over 2024. Universities and institutes contributed 90,000 applications, increasing 16.6%, spurring real-world applications. Enterprise patents achieved 54% industrialization, marking consistent gains.
IP royalties traded 3.8287 trillion yuan from January to November, up 7.4%, with export growth at 23.1%. These figures elevate China’s service trade profile, signaling a robust future in global IP dynamics.
