Heartbreaking scenes unfolded at a Knowledge Park-3 hostel in Greater Noida as second-year BTech student Udit Soni from Jhansi met a untimely end by jumping from the fourth floor. The incident, occurring late on January 23-24, stemmed from a chain of events involving alcohol consumption, hostel reprimand, and a stern parental call.
Udit, son of Vijay Soni, along with friends Chetan and Kuldeep, had been drinking before stumbling back to the hostel. Violating premises rules, they drew the management’s attention, leading to a recorded scolding video dispatched to Udit’s father. Vijay’s furious response over the phone, demanding Udit’s withdrawal from studies and return home, shattered the student’s resolve.
Plunged into severe psychological distress, Udit made the fatal decision. Found gravely wounded, he was hurried to hospital but succumbed to injuries. The hostel buzzed with alarm, prompting rapid police response. Officers documented the scene, seized the body for postmortem, and began questioning those present.
Police vow to file charges per family inputs, while officials engaged with students on-site. This sorrowful episode highlights the urgent need for compassionate handling of student infractions and accessible mental health resources in hostels.
Udit’s passing leaves a void in his family and peers, igniting discussions on balancing discipline with care in educational settings to safeguard young lives.
