Madurai witnessed fiery political rhetoric as Congress MP Manickam Tagore dismantled the NDA’s ‘double engine’ boast for Tamil Nadu, claiming it’s a total failure no pilot can revive. Addressing supporters on Saturday, he mocked the alliance’s reliance on investigative agencies to forge partnerships, insisting it won’t sway voters.
Reacting to PM Modi’s critique of the DMK government’s handling of the Kartigai Deepam row in Tiruparankundram, Tagore called it a misstep. The PM had charged the Stalin government with dishonoring Lord Murugan and courts, but Tagore countered that such comments on a Supreme Court-pending matter were inappropriate.
‘This is a sensitive religious and cultural flashpoint for our people, often exploited by RSS elements to ignite divisions,’ he charged. Tagore urged restraint from national leaders on sub-judice issues.
Turning to economic distress, he endorsed Rahul Gandhi’s sharp X post exposing the textile crisis. Detailing how American tariffs are slashing exports, closing factories, and erasing jobs for 4.5 crore workers, Gandhi demanded PM intervention to revive the sector from its ‘dead’ state.
As opposition voices amplify, Tagore’s speech blends local grievances with national critiques, positioning Congress as a vigilant watchdog. With Tamil Nadu’s political landscape heating up, these salvos highlight the fragility of NDA’s southern ambitions against entrenched regional dynamics.
