Voters in Chennai have a final push to secure their place on the electoral rolls. Special camps kick off Sunday at all 4,097 polling stations in the city’s 16 assembly areas, targeting fresh registrations and restorations from recent purges.
Triggered by the November 2025 Special Intensive Revision, the process culled 1.5 million names from district lists. Breakdowns reveal 150,000 deceased, 160,000 with unconfirmed details, and the rest mostly migrants changing addresses within or beyond Chennai.
Crucially, many purged voters qualify to participate but fell through due to verification gaps or relocations. The corporation’s response: widespread camps for easy access. An election spokesperson highlighted, ‘First-timers and those affected can apply on-site with proper documents.’
With January 31 as the last date for changes, this round is pivotal. Officials call on the public to attend with ID and proof of address. Final lists will follow verification, underscoring the drive’s role in fostering inclusive, fair democratic processes across all segments.
