Bhumi Pednekar is all set to captivate audiences once more with ‘Dal Dal’, her upcoming Prime Video series where she embodies the enigmatic DCP Rita Ferreira. This role, far from conventional, tested her limits and redefined her approach to performance.
Speaking at length about her journey, Bhumi highlighted Rita’s unique traits: unflappable poise masking deep-seated feelings. ‘Script in hand, I sensed the complexity right away,’ she said. ‘Fully internalizing her took 4-5 months of relentless effort.’
She credited her team for the breakthrough. Extended sessions with director Amrit Raj Gupta and producer Suresh Triveni turned into masterclasses. ‘For instance, Rita’s first corpse encounter,’ Bhumi recounted. ‘Common sense screams freak-out, but Suresh insisted on restraint. What does she do instead? We hashed it out over hours of probing questions.’
Rita’s confined expressiveness challenged Bhumi to innovate subtly. ‘Staying composed while conveying turmoil is draining,’ she reflected. ‘Mother-daughter scenes varied each take, amplifying the mental toll. Post-shoot exhaustion hit hard, but project completion brought pure elation.’
Drawing from Vish Dhamija’s ‘Bhendi Bazaar’, ‘Dal Dal’ is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and backed by Abundantia Entertainment’s Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni. Expect strong turns from Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal. Tune in January 30 on Prime Video, reaching viewers in 240 nations.
