Relief swept through Gopalganj as police unveiled the arrest of four notorious thieves responsible for pilfering ornaments from the Thave Durga Temple. The crime, executed a month ago under the cover of darkness, involved snatching the deity’s ornate crown and other valuables—all now safely back.
The robbery on December 17-18 prompted an SIT probe. Intensive surveillance and raids culminated in the capture of the gang: brothers Sharif and Chand Alam, a female partner, and Siwan resident Ejaz Ali. Sharif, the mastermind, had been playing a cat-and-mouse game across multiple districts.
A crucial intelligence input directed teams to Bhojpurwa, yielding the treasures: split gold crown, necklace pieces, and a silver umbrella. SP Vinay Tiwari lauded the operation at a press meet, outlining plans for witness testimonies in 15 days to fast-track convictions.
The crack team—featuring Sadar SDPO Pranjal Kumar, Circle Inspector Karmveer Prasad Singh, Kateya’s Om Prakash Chauhan, Nagar SHO Praveen Prabhakar, Thave SHO Akhilesh Kumar, and DIU members—stands poised for commendations post-trial.
Devotees rejoice at this victory against sacrilege, reinforcing police prowess in tackling organized crime targeting holy sites.
