The nation is in shock after Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar perished in a horrific plane crash near Baramati. Envisioned as a routine flight from Mumbai to a rally, the journey ended catastrophically when the aircraft crashed during approach to land.

Responding promptly, PM Narendra Modi spoke with CM Devendra Fadnavis, absorbing updates on the devastating event. On X, Modi penned a moving tribute: ‘Devastated by the Baramati plane crash. My deepest condolences to the families enduring unimaginable loss. May they find solace in this dark time.’ He lauded Pawar as an indefatigable servant of the masses, skilled administrator, and champion of the needy.

Home Minister Amit Shah, visibly moved, shared his sorrow online. ‘Losing Ajit Pawar, our NDA stalwart, in such a tragic accident pains the heart,’ he wrote. Shah highlighted Pawar’s lifelong dedication to Maharashtra’s diverse communities and their personal exchanges on state matters. He assured the family’s unwavering NDA support.

The sequence of events unfolded tragically: at approximately 9 AM, the plane lost control mid-landing at Baramati airport, nosediving and igniting upon impact. No survivors were found amid the wreckage, prompting immediate high-level briefings to Modi and Shah.

Pawar’s stature in politics was unmatched—rooted in Baramati’s soil, he rose through ranks with a focus on development projects that transformed rural Maharashtra. His sudden exit disrupts the political equilibrium, with allies and opponents alike reflecting on his contributions.

Shah’s departure for Baramati signals a coordinated central response, potentially including aid for investigations. Preliminary reports hint at possible mechanical issues, but a comprehensive probe is essential to prevent recurrences. This incident revives debates on enhancing air safety protocols for VIP travels.

Beyond politics, Pawar was a family man and community pillar. Tributes from across India highlight his approachable demeanor and policy innovations. As funeral arrangements commence, Maharashtra honors a leader whose work ethic and empathy defined an era.
