CM Vijayan: Kerala’s Public Health Remains National Exemplar Despite Opposition Jabs

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan turned the tables on opposition critics in the legislative assembly Wednesday, labeling their assault on the state’s health apparatus as unfounded rhetoric. He reaffirmed Kerala’s position as a national model, backed by data and global acclaim.

Countering the UDF’s suspension notice on a ‘critical health emergency,’ Vijayan laid out the LDF’s legacy of bold investments and reforms. The ‘Aardram Mission’ spearheads efforts to upgrade hospitals, elevate patient outcomes, and reinforce primary care networks.

From navigating the COVID-19 storm with world-class facilities to instituting lasting changes, Kerala’s record speaks volumes. Isolated errors are being exaggerated into a narrative of total breakdown, Vijayan cautioned, which jeopardizes the system’s hard-earned credibility.

Government vigilance ensures prompt fixes, embedding corrections within a culture of perpetual enhancement. Vijayan’s rebuttal followed V.D. Satheesan’s onslaught, decrying negligence, shortages, missing emergency setups, faulty probes, and rundown infrastructure.

The opposition leader spotlighted treatment lags, medical blunders in major institutions, sidelined legacy projects, and skyrocketing private healthcare costs forcing public dependence on premium providers. ‘The health system is gasping for air,’ Satheesan thundered.

This showdown illuminates Kerala’s fault lines, pitting opposition alarmism against ruling party’s progress narrative. Healthcare’s prominence signals fiercer debates ahead of elections, influencing the state’s political trajectory.
