Outrage over a police officer’s roadside rant has prompted decisive action in Bihar’s Darbhanga. SHO Harendra Kumar of a local station was suspended by SSP Jagannath Reddy after video evidence surfaced of him abusing a female doctor’s driver for breaching one-way traffic rules. The clip, now exploding across social media, features the officer’s crude language, including slurs aimed at the driver’s mother, despite the doctor’s pleas for civility.

Reddy, taking the matter with utmost seriousness, directed Sadar SDPO-1 for an on-ground investigation. Findings validated the complaints, leading to Kumar’s instant suspension and relocation to police lines. ‘Officers must interact with courtesy; this kind of vulgarity is unacceptable and harms our image,’ the SSP declared.

The doctor’s composure in urging a formal challan process stood in sharp contrast to the SHO’s fury, amplifying public condemnation. This incident spotlights the need for professionalism in policing, particularly in routine traffic enforcement where tempers can flare.

Turning to the community, Reddy implored everyone to respect no-entry signs and one-way paths for safer roads. ‘Law-breakers will be penalized appropriately, but never with disrespect,’ he vowed. In an era of ubiquitous recording, such suspensions signal a zero-tolerance shift towards misconduct. Darbhanga residents hope this sets a precedent for respectful policing.
