The Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh has taken a significant step towards educator welfare by approving cashless hospitalization for 15 lakh teachers and allied staff. The cabinet nod came Thursday, allowing seamless treatment in both public and select private hospitals.
Originating from CM Yogi’s Teachers’ Day announcement, the scheme now officially includes basic and secondary education workers, non-teaching employees, shiksha mitrs, and families. The comprehensive package, costing 448 crore rupees annually, promises financial ease during medical needs.
Detailing the cabinet outcomes, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said 30 proposals received the go-ahead. Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi projected 2.97 lakh beneficiaries in her domain, with 89.25 crore rupees allocated for inpatient cashless facilities.
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh emphasized the scheme’s reach to 11.95 lakh staff, from teachers to PM Poshan cooks, via a 3,000-rupee annual premium per person, totaling 358.61 crore rupees. Private hospital access ties into PM Ayushman Bharat rates via the National Health Authority.
Targeted groups include vocational subject specialists, Sanskrit school faculty, KGVB staff, and workers in aided/self-financed schools post-verification. District committees under school inspectors and basic officers will oversee eligibility.
Pre-existing coverage under national or state plans disqualifies participants. By bridging healthcare gaps, this initiative empowers UP’s teaching community, fostering a healthier, more dedicated workforce essential for the state’s educational progress.
