Bulawayo’s Queens Sports Club witnessed a high-stakes Under-19 World Cup 2026 Super Sixes showdown where Sri Lanka edged South Africa by five wickets, preserving their path to the semifinals. With Afghanistan favored alongside Australia in Group 1, Sri Lanka remains poised to capitalize on any slip-up.

South Africa, batting first after the toss, compiled 261/7 thanks to Jorich van Schalkwyk’s century. The opener’s 116 (130 balls, 13×4, 2×6) rescued the innings after a promising 96-run opening with Adnaan Lagadien’s 46 (57 balls, 6×4, 1×6).

Van Schalkwyk’s grit shone through 48-run stands with Mbatha (12) and 34 with James, who was 37* (36 balls). Kruiskamp added 21*. Sri Lanka’s attack was led by Akash’s four wickets for 46 runs in 10 overs, Gamage’s brace, and Henatigala’s solitary scalp.

In reply, Sri Lanka stumbled early, losing Mahawithana for 4 at 23. But Viran Chamuditha’s masterful 110 (94 balls, 13×4, 1×6) and a 143-run alliance with Wekunagoda (48, 5×4) turned the tide. Dinsara (32) and Henatigala (20*) finished the job in 46 overs.

Kruiskamp and Botha claimed two wickets apiece for South Africa, with James taking one. This hard-fought win boosts Sri Lanka’s confidence as the tournament intensifies.
