Karnataka’s transformation from a thriving IT epicenter to a den of drug operations has become the focal point of BJP’s outrage against the Congress government. Senior party leader and MLA V. Sunil Kumar leveled these explosive charges in the state assembly on Thursday, amid thanks motion on the governor’s speech.
Kumar minced no words: ‘The state proudly called Karnataka IT Park is now a Drugs Park.’ He referenced high-profile raids – Maharashtra Police in Mysuru and Delhi Police in Bengaluru – exposing local failures. ‘The CM himself questioned IPS officers on why Karnataka Police lags behind others,’ he noted, highlighting the leadership’s frustration.
Painting a picture of systemic collapse, Kumar accused the government of fostering an environment where drug lords flourish. ‘Our reputation is in tatters; law and order is in ruins,’ he stated. He decried ‘selective justice,’ with leniency for Congress allies and harshness for opponents.
Specific grievances poured out: No probe into Kalaburagi opposition leader’s arrest, but quick action on BJP MLC C.T. Ravi’s remarks. A 14-day delay in Kolar over threats to a female commissioner by a Congress man. Intimidation by a Congress MLA’s son in Bhadravati, threats to JD(S)’s Kareamma Naik from sand mafias, and attacks on BJP’s S. Suresh Kumar’s residence.
In Congress’s 2.5-year tenure, Kumar concluded, the state has seen politicized policing and eroded public trust. The BJP’s call to action resonates as citizens demand a return to safety and innovation, free from the shadows of crime.
