Thick blankets of fog turned a routine morning drive into a nightmare in Bhilwara’s Mandal area, Rajasthan. Friday’s accident at Kothari Puliya saw multiple vehicles collide violently due to zero visibility, claiming one life and injuring more than a dozen commuters.
The sequence began with a sudden stop by a lead vehicle, followed by a domino effect of crashes. Half a dozen or more vehicles were involved in the mangled heap on the overpass.
Alerted by frantic calls, authorities descended on the location, coordinating a robust rescue mission. Victims pinned inside wrecked autos were carefully extracted and ferried to medical facilities. Several injured persons remain in serious condition under observation.
The pile-up triggered a sprawling four-km traffic snarl, stranding hundreds. Law enforcement cleared the road methodically, employing heavy machinery to shift obstacles and normalize traffic.
As inquiries proceed, experts point to recurring fog hazards in the region. Enhanced protocols, including real-time weather alerts and mandatory slow driving, are recommended to avert such tragedies in the future.
