Breaking new ground, IIT Ropar has inked a landmark MoU with the Indian Army’s Armoured Corps Centre and School to introduce an M.Tech in Defence Technology. This first-of-its-kind program for IITs empowers mid-level officers with elite skills in defence innovation, aligning education seamlessly with battlefield demands.
The curriculum, crafted with precision, dives deep into practical applications—think hands-on labs, cutting-edge research, and problem-solving tailored to armoured warfare. It’s not just about degrees; completing officers will hold an IIT Ropar M.Tech, a badge of excellence that equips them to spearhead tech modernizations and indigenous defence projects.
The partnership’s ambition shines in its R&D pillars: developing next-gen AFVs, advanced weapons, and revolutionary materials for armoured systems. This holistic approach promises to resolve key technological hurdles, strengthening India’s defence posture.
Celebrating the occasion, IIT Ropar’s Director Prof. Rajeev Ahuja noted, ‘This fusion crafts a blueprint for defence tech leadership, merging academic strength with military acumen to fuel self-reliance by 2047.’ Major General Vikram Verma joined Prof. Ahuja in signing the agreement.
Anticipated outcomes include spin-offs for civilian tech domains like advanced materials and automation. By weaving together research, innovation, and operational know-how, IIT Ropar and the Army are crafting a resilient ecosystem for India’s ascent as a defence technology powerhouse.
