Raipur, January 31, 2026/ Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has said that special efforts are being made in collaboration with the state government to make Chhattisgarh advanced and self-reliant in the field of agriculture. A team of senior agricultural scientists from the central government and officials from the state government will formulate a special policy according to Chhattisgarh’s agroclimate within the next week. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma and Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary Mrs. Shahla Nigar, along with senior administrative officials from the central and state governments were present in the meeting.
After a high-level review of the Agriculture Department’s work at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan today, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the officials, stating that crop diversification needs to be promoted in the state to increase farmers’ income. Additionally, small landholding farmers should be encouraged in allied activities such as animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry, other than agriculture.
Union Minister Shri Singh said that the problems of research and variety will be addressed in the state, and work will be done on crop diversity. Shri Chouhan said that work is progressing with better coordination in Chhattisgarh, and there are infinite possibilities for improvement. They will further strengthen agriculture through different experiments. He said that research should be such that it directly benefits the farmers. He reviewed the scheme for strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations, physical verification of agricultural machinery distribution, and the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhanya District Scheme. The Union Minister emphasized teamwork and innovation by interacting with Chhattisgarh’s agricultural officers and colleagues, and stated that those doing good work will be honored.
Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan also reviewed the implementation of schemes of the central and state governments related to agricultural development and farmer empowerment in Chhattisgarh. Union Minister Chouhan said that Chhattisgarh has suitable climatic zones for various crops. Emphasizing crop diversification, he spoke about promoting different crops in different districts and regions according to the local climate.
Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, continuous meaningful efforts are being made to increase the income of farmers in the country. He said that adopting modern agricultural equipment and techniques and farming with innovation will lead to an increase in crop production, empower farmers, and enrich the nation. He added that Chhattisgarh is doing excellent work under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
Union Minister Shri Chouhan reviewed the progress of various schemes including PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Mission for Millets, Krishi Unnati, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and Horticulture Mission Yojana. He said that it should be ensured that eligible farmers receive 100% benefit under the PM Samman Nidhi Yojana. He emphasized promoting the cultivation of palm oil and makhana.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the prompt cooperation received from the central government in the field of agriculture and rural development. The Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh is receiving more help than expected from the central government. The Chief Minister further stated that the guidelines received from Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the meeting to improve the agriculture and rural development sectors in the state will give momentum to the development of these areas.
