Unemployment woes turned nightmarish for 42 young men in Bihar’s Motihari when a sly operator promised them lucrative ‘Police Friend’ jobs, only to vanish with their hard-earned cash. The scam, executed brazenly within police station premises, has sparked outrage and triggered a high-level probe.
The perpetrator, claiming powerful connections, approached desperate job hunters with tales of easy entry into police ranks. A guaranteed Rs 16,000 salary lured them in, backed by a doctored DGP letter. Victims underwent sham formalities at thans, receiving ID badges that lent false legitimacy.
Particularly damning are claims implicating Areraj’s woman SHO, who reportedly primed sons of retired watchmen for the roles. Three such families coughed up Rs 20,000 each, with Rs 60,000 total demanded per head. Youths from Ghodasahan, Palanwa, and Govindganj also lost out, fed endless promises of impending paychecks.
Post-payment, the deceiver played a cat-and-mouse game: bank details one day, a Muzaffarpur rendezvous the next. When the truth dawned, fury erupted. Motihari’s SP Swarn Prabhat acted decisively, registering an FIR at Kotwa and tasking an ASP-led SIT with cracking the case.
As investigations proceed, this scandal raises alarms about security protocols in police setups and the predatory tactics targeting Bihar’s youth bulge. It serves as a stark reminder for verifying job offers through official channels, preventing future heartbreaks.
