Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar rolled up his sleeves on Wednesday, personally overseeing redevelopment works at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The surprise inspection comes amid the state’s ambitious drive to bolster public health services.
At the heart of the visit was the new Emergency Block (Phase-1). On the first floor, Kumar delved into the Radiology Department’s upgrades, noting the deployment of international-standard CT and MRI machines to revolutionize patient diagnostics.
He climbed to the fifth floor for a close look at neonatal and child health facilities, gauging their readiness. Campus tours revealed steady progress on multiple fronts, with in-depth briefings from project leads on current status and future phases.
Quality control topped Kumar’s directives: ‘Ensure every build adheres to safety standards; no compromises.’ He advocated for doctor hostels and staff housing to sustain 24/7 operations. Patient ease remains paramount – advanced care must be prompt and hassle-free.
Envisioning PMCH as a 5,462-bed powerhouse, the CM mandated full-spectrum modern amenities. The tour wrapped with checks on JP Ganga Path’s green spaces and aesthetic improvements. Senior bureaucrats Deepak Kumar, Pratyay Amrit, Lokesh Kumar Singh, and Kumar Ravi were by his side.
Such field-level engagements promise to expedite Bihar’s healthcare transformation, delivering tangible benefits to millions.
