A daring nighttime raid on Rohit Shetty’s Juhu bungalow on January 31 has Mumbai Police peeling back layers of an organized crime syndicate originating in Pune. Far from a spur-of-the-moment crime, the attack was the culmination of a conspiracy involving weapons trafficking and encrypted coordination.
Precisely at 12:45 AM, the gunman—visible on CCTV in black upperwear and white bottoms—approached on a Pune-registered scooter. He discharged five shots indiscriminately toward the tower, where Shetty was present, then escaped on the two-wheeler. The blast alerted sentries, who found casings and debris but no assailant.
Deep dives by Crime Branch and Anti-Extortion Cell led to the scooter’s recovery in Vile Parle. Five Pune natives are in custody, their hideouts yielding a pistol, magazines, air gun, and phones with deleted Signal chats. Shubham Lonkar, still absconding, directed the entire showstopper.
Lonkar’s role included procuring the getaway vehicle, pistol, and cash. Weapons linked to arrested Swapnil Sakat were supplied by Asaram Fasle, following Lonkar’s orders—prompting Fasle’s February 5 detention. The primary shooter shares fugitive status with Lonkar, hunted by dedicated squads.
Juhu Police initiated the FIR, now escalated to extortion experts. Emerging angles point to blackmail or festering feuds, possibly film-related. With Bollywood on edge, this case highlights vulnerabilities in high-profile security, as officers pledge swift resolution and network takedown.
