Punjab’s law and order crisis deepened dramatically with the daylight murder of AAP leader Lucky Oberoi in Jalandhar’s Model Town. The Friday morning hit outside a gurdwara has not only terrified residents but also fueled a blistering political row, with SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal accusing the AAP government of fostering anarchy.
Unidentified gunmen executed the attack with chilling precision, pumping bullets into Oberoi before vanishing. He was ferried to hospital but couldn’t be saved. The site near the sacred Guru Dvaira Sahib amplified the horror, as pilgrims witnessed the violence.
Badal’s X post cut deep: ‘Under AAP’s so-called ‘Zero Fear’ government, Punjab bleeds. Their own leader Lucky Oberoi was slaughtered in daylight outside a gurdwara.’ He painted a grim picture of rising murders – nine in the first week, nearly 25 in January – striking courts, markets, marriage halls, and holy places.
Dismissing police claims of cracking down on gangsters, Badal labeled it ‘lawlessness, pure and simple.’ He directly challenged CM Bhagwant Mann: ‘You’re unfit to hold office even for a day.’
Responding swiftly, authorities are dissecting CCTV feeds and chasing leads on political feuds or personal vendettas. ADCP Jayant Pari noted multiple shots fired, vowing a thorough probe. This high-profile slaying arrives amid a wave of violence, forcing AAP to defend its record as public fear mounts and rivals circle.
