India’s colts etched their name deeper into cricketing folklore, capturing a sixth Under-19 World Cup crown with a commanding 100-run victory over England in the summit clash. The final at Harare Sports Club witnessed India bat first post-toss, erupting to 411/9 in a batting masterclass.
Star performer Vaibhav Suryavanshi blazed 175 off 80 balls, smashing 15 boundaries each of fours and sixes. Recovering from 20/1 (Aaron George 9), he forged a 142-run alliance with Ayush Mhatre (53 off 51), then 89 with Vedant Trivedi to hit 251.
The lower order fired too: Vihaan Malhotra 30, Abhigyan Kundu 40 (31 balls), and Kanishk Chauhan 37* in the slog overs. England managed only James Minto’s 3 wickets, with two each from Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green.
Targeted with 412, England stuttered at 19/1 after Joseph Moore’s 17. Ben Dawkins steadied with 74 alongside Ben Mays (45 off 28, 7×4, 2×6), followed by 49 with Thomas Rev and 32 with Caleb Faulkner.
But the collapse was swift: 174/4 at 20.4 overs became 177/7 by 21.6. Faulkner’s valiant 115 (67 balls, 9×4, 7×6) couldn’t rescue them, as they ended at 311 in 40.2 overs.
RS Ambarish’s 3-for headlined India’s bowling, with Deepesh Devendran, Kanishk Chauhan taking 2 each, and skipper Mhatre one. This emphatic win reaffirms India’s supremacy in U19 cricket, inspiring a new generation.
