A gruesome road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district has claimed three lives, igniting public fury over road safety lapses. On February 9, in the Hinduari area of Robertsganj kotwali, a truck traveling at breakneck speed plowed into a motorcycle, killing the three occupants outright and prompting a police chase for the hit-and-run driver.
The ill-fated bike riders were en route home after attending a tilak ceremony, a traditional pre-wedding ritual. The victims—Dayashankar Singh, revered principal of Chandragupta Maurya Inter College; local resident Prem Singh of Hinduari; and Kamla Singh of Tilaya—had no chance against the oncoming behemoth. The crash site’s horrific visuals showed twisted metal and bloodied road, a stark reminder of fragile lives.
As villagers gathered in shock, the trucker fled, evading immediate capture. Robertsganj police acted promptly, recovering the corpses for postmortem and filing charges. CCTV analysis is underway to nab the culprit, with assurances of swift justice.
Sonbhadra’s roads continue to be death traps, as evidenced by a prior incident in Anpara’s Dibulgaj near the temple, where a speeding truck felled 18-year-old Jitendra Vishwakarma, leaving companion Ajay Gupta fighting for life. Community leaders call for urgent interventions like better signage, radar checks, and driver training to avert future calamities. The bereaved families seek not just punishment but systemic change.
