Opposition heavyweight V.D. Satheesan dropped a political bombshell in Thalassery on Monday, proclaiming that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Left government has lost the faith of its core base—including principled communists and veteran supporters. Referencing poet Sachidanandan’s pointed observations, Satheesan captured the pulse of a disenchanted Kerala while spearheading the UDF’s Puthuyuga campaign.
He contended that CPI(M) forfeits any right to power, having abandoned leftism for right-wing ploys that foment religious divides akin to BJP playbooks. Minorities, he stressed, feel unprecedentedly insecure, betrayed by the party’s cynical electoral cycle of minority flattery followed by majority consolidation—alienating everyone in the process.
Decades of loyalty are crumbling, Satheesan said, as the truth dawns on steadfast allies amid statewide bewilderment.
Spotlighting the 2019 Sabarimala gold pilferage—under Vijayan’s rule—Satheesan highlighted three imprisoned CPI(M) leaders and two government-picked Devaswom chiefs among them. With probes intensifying, he predicted a cascade of arrests, accusing the regime of meddling with the SIT to cover tracks.
In the Adoor Prakash-Unnikrishnan photo uproar, Satheesan endorsed scrutiny but insisted on parity for Vijayan. Yatra feedback painted a grim picture: deepening farm crises, surging animal attacks, mill shutdowns, labor payment lags, and botched land acquisitions for key projects.
Looking ahead, UDF pledges transformative policies, including a Kozhikode-launched health vision to rectify governmental lapses. Satheesan’s narrative paints a Left on the ropes, poised for opposition resurgence.
