A high-stakes Vigilance operation in Gaya has led to the arrest of Rakesh Kumar, BDO of Nagar block, who was filmed and caught accepting Rs 50,000 in bribes inside his office on Monday. The Bihar Monitoring Investigation Bureau’s swift response to a villager’s plea has once again highlighted systemic issues in block-level administration.
Suchita Ranjan, representing her husband Chandbhushan Kumar of Gannu Bigaha, reported the extortion at Patna’s bureau headquarters. Post-completion of Rs 3.50 lakh labor work, Kumar demanded kickbacks to process dues—a classic shakedown exposed through verification.
With DSP Satyendra Ram at the helm, the trap team executed a flawless raid in the block chief’s room. The arrest, complete with chemical tests on the cash, leaves no room for denial.
Kumar will be remanded after questioning, FIR lodged at Vigilance station. Marking the 16th case this year—with 11 traps sprung and over Rs 7 lakh recovered—the bureau’s track record instills hope amid Bihar’s battle against entrenched corruption in public works.
