Diplomatic momentum between India and Fiji gained pace with a high-level meeting in New Delhi. Minister of State Pavitra Margherita hosted Fiji’s Minister Aserom Emanuel, discussing ways to fortify bilateral relations, harmonize priorities, and unlock potentials in digital infrastructure.
Margherita’s X post captured the essence of the talks: a fruitful exchange on development partnerships, capacity building, and digital infra collaborations, including progress reviews and strategic outlooks. Such interactions highlight India’s proactive outreach in the Pacific.
In parallel, Fiji saw High Commissioner Sunil Mehta’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Filimoni Jitoko on February 2. Focused on robust parliamentary exchanges and bilateral advancement, the dialogue was lauded by the High Commission on X as a step toward deeper ties.
Mehta also presided over the January 27 steering committee for the India-backed Tubalevu Ground Water QIP. Fiji officials from various ministries participated, noting that implementation is progressing, set to benefit Tubalevu with dependable water resources and reinforce mutual bonds.
Preceding this, Mehta’s January 19 discussion with Emanuel targeted enhanced cooperation across interests. Anchored in mutual esteem and people-centric links, relations surged after PM Modi’s landmark 2014 Fiji trip, which launched FIPIC, fostering enduring India-Pacific solidarity.
